About Jan Powers Farmers Markets X
- Primarily it is a colourful bustling market selling fresh farm produce flowers
- breads artisan products meat fish poultry plants organics and food related
- objects... It's a feel good grass roots experience with a social and community slant and a lot of fun.
- It is not exclusively done by, or for Farmers . It is not a Farmers Market
- Co-operative. We have a number of city folk selling too, and a lot of exotic
- products and hold special promotions, entertaining events and chefs give cooking classes.
- It is a big, bustling, busy, open air food market that sells all the most
- interesting food and plants, kitchen goods and wine, breads, meat, fish and fowl under the sun.

Who Comes To The Markets? X
- Everybody, from the locals to Judges and sportsmen, media and tourists,
- the rich and famous, to the poor and infamous, wise and the hungover.

- All ages and sects, including foodies, photographers, artists and off duty
- policemen, publicans, plumbers and chippies, chefs, priests, actors,
- acrobats, mothers, couples, corporate big wigs and even your neighbours and their children. Come and meet them all there! Yes we have lots of top
- dogs and top children too who visit.

- Market Lost & Found items are held at the Office Tent.
- Leave your name and contact details in our log book if you have lost your glasses,

- We have a 90% recovery rate (only a 10% recovery rate for wits!).

- About Jan Power
- Jan Power is the original owner and operator of the Jan Power's Farmers Markets
- (registered name). She has a trained background in medicine, theatre and food.
- Grew up on a farm in Stanthorpe, schooled in Brisbane, trained as a cook in
- London, created and worked in her own resteraunt and catering company in Paddington.
- Jan was the food editor of the Courier Mail and appeared on TV for many years and is still
- on ABC radio. A consultant to the food industry on products, presentation and
- marketing, she is also a sought after humourous speaker on the national circuit.
- She visits markets all over the world, and loves them so much that she began her
- own in Queensland in 1998.
Braised Oxtail with Vegetables Recipe X

- Serves 2 - 3
- 1 oxtail, cut into joints
- 1 tbsp cooking oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tsp salt
- freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 whole cloves
- 2 cups (500 ml) meat stock
- 13 oz (410 g) canned whole tomatoes, quartered
- 8 fresh pickling onions
- 2 celery stalks, sliced
- 2 large carrots, peeled and cut into chunks
- 8 new potatoes
- 1 1/3 cup (100 g) mushrooms, wiped and sliced
- 4 tbsp medium cream sherry
- 4 tsp dried or 3 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- Method
- 1. Remove excess fat from oxtail and brown meat in heated cooking oil in a
- heavy-based saucepan. Add onion and saute until translucent.
- 2. Add seasoning, heated meat stock and tomato, cover with lid, reduce heat and
- simmer for 3 hours or until meat is tender.
- 3. Add vegetables and sherry and simmer for another 30 minutes.
- 4. Remove bay leaves, then sprinkle with parsley.

Lambs Shanks Casserole Recipe X

- Serves 2 - 3
- Slow cooked Lamb Shanks with aromatic spices
- 6 Lamb Shanks
- Plain flour for dusting
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onlion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 1 cup Red wine
- 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
- 1/2 bunch fresh thyme
- 2 Teaspoons chopped chilli
- 1 Tablespoon tumeric
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Method
- Dust the lamb shanks in flour.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a saucepan and brown the shanks, turning frequently.
- Put aside.
- Heat the remaining oil in the pan and brown the onions and garlic.
- Add the celery and carrot and stir fry for about 5 minutes.
- Add the shanks, wine tomatoes, water , chilli and herbs.
- Simmer on low for about 1 hour.
- Season with salt and pepper and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
- Serve with creamy mash potatoes of soft polenta.

Irish Moss Recipe X

- A superb green sauce for covering everything.
- 1) Green peas 1kg.
- 2) Salt. Cracked black pepper.
- 3) 2 chopped white onions.
- 4) 2 cleaned cut carrots.
- 5) Pinch of thyme and sage. Shred if fresh herbs
- 6) Knob butter. 1 cup cream..
- 7) Optional dash of good sherry.
- Method
- Boil the peas, carrots and onions in salted water.
- When tender remove and put through blender, add cream and wiz up in.
- Blender or kitchen wiz until smooth.
- Keep warm in a bowl over hot water and beat until light and fluffy before pouring
- over lamb cutlets, lamb stew, roast lamb slices or a hearty casserole.
